A naturally occurring state of mind...
Hypnosis is often perceived as strange and mysterious but it is actually a very simple and naturally occuring process or state of mind.
It can be considered that two states of mind are involved in the process:
- When your thoughts are occupied with what is going on in a very conscious way and you are aware of everything that you are thinking
- When your state of thinking is more automatic, such as when you are thinking about things but perhaps aren't consciously aware of what you are thinking, for example like daydreaming when periods of time elapse where you were aware of what you were thinking at the time, but you may look back and only remember the significant parts.
In this 'daydream -like' state, decisions are made which affect your beliefs and your emotions. A professionally trained hypnotherapist can help guide you to make the right decisions and develop healthy beliefs,. Therefore, with guidance, you are making all the necessary changes for yourself and this in itself can be quite empowering.
You may still have further questions, so please see some frequently asked questions below:
Will I lose control when under hypnosis?
No, you will always be in control. Hypnosis is all about working with your therapist. You will be guided towards healthier ways of thinking, but not controlled.
Will I be asleep when hypnotised?
No, not at all. Hypnosis means just being in a very relaxed state as described above. Some people actually expect themselves to be asleep during hypnosis but this is not the case, you will bee deeply relaxed but aware.
Could I get 'stuck' in hypnosis?
No, this will never happen. You will always come out of a state of hypnosis in you own time. After all, you will go into it willingly, so you will come out of it willingly. Some people do take longer than others to come out of hypnosis but a skilled, well trained hypnotherapist will have knowledge of many ways to bring someone round to a wakeful state.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, you may not realize but you have been hypnotized many times before for example, getting engrossed in a book of TV show, the difference is that in a therapy session we will use this technique to guide you towards finding coping skills, solutions and new outlooks towards troubling issues.
Releasing the therapeutic potential of your own mind can have lasting positive effects on your wellbeing and lifestyle...
